Making A Change

In 2007 I joined Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority. Key word in that was SERVICE. I joined this sorority because I wanted to be able to do my part and make a positive impact on my surrounding community. Since then I haven’t been very active in my sorority at an alumni level and I miss it. I miss the looks on people’s faces when we did Random Acts of Kindness. I miss kicking it with the under-privileged youth who weren’t able to be with their family and for a day we had the privilege to be their family. I even enjoyed cleaning up the campus with the girls. So today at work during my lunch break I looked up global charities and found this website: http://www.globalgoals.org/. I have no idea why I haven’t done this sooner.

There are so many charities/movements that you can donate too and be a part of. I want to get more involved but I have to do more research so I can figure out just exactly what I can do. This generation has all the tools to make a major impact on the world. If we all took the time to give back to our communities we could really make a difference. No one should wonder where their next meal is coming from, no one should be forced to drink toxic water, no one should have to walk around barefoot… no one should have to suffer. No matter your resources, you can give back. No matter the amount of free time you have, you can donate a Saturday to doing community service. It will not only allow you to help someone else, it will make you feel a little better inside.

So, what do you plan to do to give back this year?
